NBA FINALS (June) LOS ANGELES LAKERS v. BOSTON CELTICS
Magic Johnson and Larry Bird met in the 1979 NCAA Championship, the highest rated Championship game of all time.  A year later they were NBA rookies and between the two of them, have won 6 of the 8 NBA Titles in the 1980s.  The Lakers and Celtics met once in the decade for the title, 5 years ago, the Celtics beat LA in 7.  The Boston Celtics are playing in their 18th NBA Championship, they are 9-8; the Lakers are 13 time champions, the most in history, this is their 20th Finals appearance, also the most in history.  The Lakers and Celtics have met 8 times in the NBA Finals, also the most in history, the Lakers up 6-2, Boston winning in their first and most recent meetings.

Bird and Parish are both playing for their 5th NBA Championship, that would put them in a very, very small group, Wilt has 8 titles, West has 6, without scouring, I dont believe anyone else is higher than 4.

Larry Bird is a 3 time regular season MVP, a 4 time Finals MVP, tied for the most of all time with Wilt.  If he wants a singular place in history, he'll have to go through his forever rival, Magic Johnson, to do it.  Also on the first team All NBA this season was Kevin McHale, he and the Chief remain the front line for the Celtics. Lot of guys getting bench minutes on the front line, Fred Roberts, Darren Daye, Greg Kite and, in his final season, Bill Walton.  Dennis Johnson and Danny Ainge are the backcourt, Jerry Sichting off the bench.
