All Time NHL Tournament- Final Four

 Elite 8

We wrap it up here, final four and the final matchup.  7 game series, all neutral site games.

 
1982 ISLANDERS v. 1982 CANADIENS

Game 1: All neutral site games.  Islanders take game 1, 2-1.  Bryan Trottier scores 1, assists on the second.  

Game 2: Islanders go up 2-0.  5-4 win.  2 goals for Bob Bourne.  

Game 3: Islanders go up 3-0 and we are a game away from an all Islanders finals.  Billy Smith stands on his head, 34 saves.  Trottier with assists on all 3 goals.

Game 4: Montreal gets one.  6-4.  Bob Gainey has a goal and 2 assists.  3 more asssits for Trottier in the loss.  

Game 5: And it ends - Islanders win 5-3 which means we will have an all New York Islanders finals.  A goal and 2 assists for Trottier and they gentleman's sweep their way to the finals.


1983 ISLANDERS v. 1979 ISLANDERS

Game 1: The '79 team takes game one, 6-5 in OT, Gary Howatt scores 16 minutes into OT.  Mike Bossy scores twice for the '79 team and once for the '83 squad; Trottier scores two for the '83 teams and once for '79.  Stefan Persson also scores for both sides. 

Game 2: 7-4 win for '79, they go up 2-0.  Bob Bourne scores twice for '79. Bossy with goals both ways.

Game 3: Another win for 1979, 5-2, they are a game away from facing the '82 squad in the finals. 4 goals for Bourne in the win.  

Game 4: '83 hangs on with the 5-4 win.  2 goals for Clark Gilles - Trottier with the Hat Trick in the loss.

Game 5: '83 wins again, 4-3.  Denis Potvin with a goal and two assists.  

Game 6: It's all tied up.  1983 wins 4-3.  2 assists for Potvin.  Trottier scores for both sides.

Game 7: 1979 moves on, 5-3.  They won the first 3, lost the next 3 - but take game 7 to head to the finals. Clark Gilles with a goal and an assist.  

FINALS

1982 ISLANDERS v. 1979 ISLANDERS

Game 1: 1979 opens with a 6-5 win. A goal and two assists for Trottier, he also had 2 assists the other way.  Denis Potvin and Clark Gilles also scored for both sides.

Game 2: '79 wins again, 6-4, overcoming a 3-0 first period deficit.  Hat Trick and an assist for Trottier, he also had an assist the other way. Gilles with a goal and an assist. Bossy has assists for both sides. 

Game 3: 1979 wins 8-4 and is one game from the whole thing, they score 6 first period goals.  2 goals for Gilles (and 3 assists for the '82 team). 2 goals for Bossy and an assist for the other side. 4 assists for Trottier for the '79 team, one for the '82 team

Game 4: Its done.  1979 sweeps 1982 and wins the tournament.  5-3.  2 goals/2 assists for Trottier, the player of the tournament.

1977 CANADIENS v. 1982 CANADIENS

Game 1: Best of 5 for the Elite 8, '77 takes game one, 3-2. Guy LaFleur and Jacques Lemaire with 2 assists for '77, Bob Gainey had an assist for both sides.

Game 2: '82 evens it up with the 4-3 win, Steve Shutt with 2 goals for '82 and an assist for '77. 

Game 3: '82 takes the 2-1 lead, moving a game away from the final four. 3-1.  Keith Acton with 2 assists for the winners. 

Game 4: The 1982 Canadiens win 5-2, Berry beating Bowman, and they reach the final four.  4 third period goals for '82, 2 Mark Napier goals for '82. Rick Wamsley outduels Ken Dryden and the '82 Habs advance.

1978 CANADIENS v. 1982 ISLANDERS

Game 1: Road win for the Islanders, 5-4 in OT. Denis Potvin scoring 13 minutes into the extra session.  2 goals and an assist for Bryan Trottier.

Game 2: Montreal levels it, 6-3. Hat Trick for Larry Robinson along with 3 assists; he and Bill Nyrop were both +5.  Bob Gainey had 2 goals 

Game 3: Islanders win at home, 4-2.  Goal and an assist for John Tonelli and Trottier.  

Game 4: The Islanders end the series, 5-2, moving on to the final four to face the '82 Canadiens. 23 saves for Billy Smith 

2001 AVALANCHE v. 1979 ISLANDERS

Game 1: Avalanche win the opener at home, 4-3 in OT. Greg de Vries tied it with under 5 to play in regulation; Joe Sakic wins it 11 minutes into OT.  Alex Tanguay with a goal and 2 assists.

Game 2: Islanders wax them, 9-1.  2 goals each for Stefan Persson and Garry Howatt, 5 assists for Bryan Trottier. 

Game 3: Another big Islanders win, 7-2, Patrick Roy gets pulled in both games 2 and 3. 2 goals/2 assists for both Trottier and Clark Gilles. 

Game 4: The Islanders end it, moving their 2nd team into the Final Four, 5-2.  2 goals for Mike Bossy.

1973 CANADIENS v. 1983 ISLANDERS

Game 1: One final four spot left, Canadiens take game 1.  5-3, scoring 4 times in the third period. 2 goals for Jacques Lemaire, a goal and 2 assists for 36 year old Henri Richard.  

Game 2: 4-3 OT win for the Habs, they move a game away from the final four.  Chuck Lefley ending it 10 minutes into the extra session. 

Game 3: Islanders stave off elimination with a 5-0 shutout. 2 goals for Clark Gilles, 26 saves for Rollie Melanson.  

Game 4:  We will see a game 5 back in Montreal, the home teams winning the first four games of the series.  This one is 5-2 Islanders. A Hat Trick for Mike Bossy

Game 5: The New York Islanders win game 5, a second shutout for Rollie Melanson, 6-0 and that means 3 New York Islanders teams make up the final four.  2 goals, 2 assists for Bossy, 26 saves for Melanson
