What is this all about?

Yesterday

Here's every October 8th game that mattered in San Francisco Giants history.

1962 World Series Game Four at New York we're down 2-1, Marichal against Whitey Ford in this one - we go up 2-0 on a two run Haller homer in the second, but when Marichal is injured batting an inning later we go to the pen early, and the Yanks take advantage with 2 runs against Bobby Bolin in the 6th. We win the game in the 7th, bases loaded, two out, Chuck Hiller hits a grand slam against Marshall Bridges and we go on and win 7-3. We're off tomorrow and then play Game 5 on the 10th.

1987 NLCS is tied at 1, Game 3 tomorrow.

1989 NLCS Game 4 home vs. Cubs, up 2-1, Sunday night at the Stick, 62,000 roaring Giants fans see us move a game away from our first pennant in 27 years.  A 2 run Matt Williams single off Greg Maddux in the 3rd gave us a 3-2 lead, but a Mark Grace triple/Andre Dawson double in the 5th tied the score at 4.  The big moment is the bottom of the 5th, Williams strikes again with a 2 run homer off Steve Wilson to give us the 6-4 lead. In relief off Scott Garrelts, Kelly Downs put runners on the corners in the 6th, but he got Sandberg to line to left to end the inning. Downs then gets 8 straight before giving up a Sandberg single with 2 outs in the 9th inning.  Steve Bedrosian came on and loaded the bases.  Up 6-4, bases loaded, 2 out, 9th inning - Bedrosian struck out Andre Dawson to end the game.  We're up 3-1.  Game 5 is tomorrow.

2000 NLDS we're down 2-1 and the Mets end our season with a 1 hitter by Bobby Jones.

2002 NLCS starts tomorrow.

2010 NLDS Game 2, the Braves even it up in 11 innings.  We had a 4-0 lead after 2 innings, Pat Burrell hit a 3 run homer in the first to get us going. We were still up 4-1 headed to the 8th, that's a 94% chance to win, Sergio Romo opened the inning by allowing singles to Derek Lee and Brian McCann.  Brian Wilson came on and got Melky Cabrera to ground to Sandoval - but Pablo threw it away and it's 4-2.  An out later Wilson gives up a game tying double to Alex Gonzalez.  We had them dead to rights in the bottom of the 10th, bases loaded, 1 out, Posey at the plate - but he went 5-4-3. Ramon Ramirez gave us a homer to Rick Ankiel in the 11th and suddenly this series was headed to Atlanta at a game apiece.

2012 NLDS, down 0-2, game 3 tomorrow

2014 NLCS starts 10-11

2016 NLDS down 1-0, the Cubs don't let up, they jump on Jeff Samardzjia with 4 earned in 2 innings and we lose 5-2. We get six hits, don't score after the third inning, and are never really in the game.  We go home a game away from elimination.

See you tomorrow.  Go Giants!
