Forever Giants: 1898 New York Giants(Year 16)

1897 is here.

My WAR calculation is a combination of Baseball-reference and Clay Davenport; I believe it to be the "best" WAR number available for historical comparison. 8 WAR is an MVP quality season. The record is pythagorean adjusted for 162 games.

1898 84-78
C Jack Warner 1.8
1B Bill Joyce 3.95
2B Kid Gleason -1.15
SS George Davis 2.9
3B Fred Hartman 1.5
LF Mike Tiernan 1.05
CF George Van Haltren 3.65
RF Jack Doyle .3
Uti Mike Grady 2.2
Uti/P Charlie Gettig 0
OF Walt Wilmot -.3
OF Tom McCreery -.6
OF Pop Foster -.55
P Cy Seymour 4.6
P Jouett Meekin 2.7
P Amos Rusie 4.35 (60.25) LAST SEASON
P Ed Doheny -1.2

-Cap Anson briefly managed this club as the Giants walk to the turn of the century.  Tiernan and Meekin are a year away from finishing up and joining the Giant Hall of Fame. This season is the end of Rusie's Giant career, he finishes as the greatest Giant pitcher to that date, about to get traded for the greatest Giant pitcher of all time.
