Yesterday
What is this all about?
Here's every October 6 game that mattered in San Francisco Giants history.
1962 World Series 1-1, Game 3 is tomorrow.
1971 NLCS Game Four - hey, we're down 2-1, a game from elimination, and we get eliminated, so that happens. Gaylord just gets blasted, gives up 7 earned in 5 2/3, but we kept up early on - it was 5-5 after the second inning (Speier and McCovey both homered) but the Pirates got 4 in the 6th to end our season. Mays was hitless in his last Giants playoff game. We lose 9-5 and are eliminated.
1987 NLCS Game One this is our first playoff game since that loss to the Pirates 16 years prior, I was a year old then and 17 now, so this is the first Giants postseason game of my memory - we go to St Louis and get beat. Rick Reuschel goes 6, gives up 5 earned. We were 2-2 headed to the bottom of the 6th (Jeffrey Leonard became the talk of the sports world in this series and that started with a 4th inning homer) but they got 5 hits and 3 runs in the 6th to put us away. We lose 5-3. Game two is tomorrow.
1989 NLCS 1-1, Game 3 is tomorrow.
2000 NLDS 1-1, Game 3 is tomorrow.
2002 NLDS Game Four home vs. Braves we're down 2-1 in a best of 5, so this is an elimination game, fortunately, it's never in doubt. We rip Glavine for 7 earned in 2 2/3, our guy is Livan Hernandez, who gets into the 9th giving up 3 earned. It was 7-0 after 3 innings, Rich Aurilia hit the big blow, a third inning 3 run homer. We win 8-3 setting up a one game showdown back in Atlanta tomorrow.
2010 NLDS starts tomorrow
2012 NLDS we open the 2012 postseason at home against the Reds - and we lose. Future Giant Johnny Cueto leaves with an injury in the first, but we're only able to score 2 against the Reds pen. Matt Cain gives up a 2 run homer to Brandon Philips in the third and a solo shot to Jay Bruce an inning later. We lose 5-2. Game 2 is tomorrow.
2014 NLDS we're up 2-0, looking to close out the Nationals at home - but it doesn't happen. We're scoreless through 6, but the Nats get to Bumgarner with 3 in the 7th and we lose 4-1. We get another chance to close out the series at home tomorrow.
2016 NLDS starts tomorrow
See you tomorrow. Go Giants!
