San Francisco Giants in Game 7

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

It hasn't been good.

October 16, 1962 Giants 0 Yankees 1 (World Series)
It's got to hard to appreciate for people who just got here, but the Giants were losers; not like the Cubs, but like Charlie Brown, always getting the football pulled away at the last second.  The template for that self identification was set here, a four hit loss to Ralph Terry.  Willie McCovey made the most famous out in San Francisco history, a line drive right at Bobby Richardson to strand men on second and third.

October 14, 1987 Giants 0 Cardinals 6 (NLCS)
25 years later the Giants went to St Louis up 3 games to 2, lost Game 6 1-0 and then Atlee Hammaker gave up 4 in the second inning of Game 7, including a 3 run homer to Jose Oquendo that ended our season.

October 27, 2002 Giants 1 Angels 4 (World Series)
40 years had passed since McCovey and San Francisco had still never won a World Series, but in 2002 we came back to Anaheim needing just one game to win the title, blew a 5-0 7th inning lead in Game 6, and then Livan Hernandez gave up 4 runs in the first three innings, including a three run Garret Anderson double that ended our season.

October 22, 2012 Giants 9 Cardinals 0 (NLCS)
We've exorcised a lot of demons in the last five years, here, we were down 3-1 to the Cards, got a Barry Zito shutout in St Louis in Game 5, a Ryan Vogelsong win in Game 6, and then pounded out 14 hits including a 7 run blitz in the first three innings to win the pennant.

The New York Giants played in 2 Game 7s as well - lost them both.
