The Top 101 Plays in the San Francisco Giants Dynasty (Part Two of Four)

Monday, November 2, 2015

Part 1 is here.  It explains what's happening.

The countdown of the top 101 moments in the San Francisco Giants dynasty continues.

75. 40% July 1 2012
Up a game in the west as we neared the halfway point, the Giants had dropped two straight at home to the Reds, losing to then Giants killer Mat Latos the night before. 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Jose Arredondo got the first two, but then a Buster Posey double/Pablo Sandoval intentional walk brought up Angel Pagan, who doubled home Posey to win the game.  We’d go to 10 over .500 and keep our 1 game lead over the Dodgers.

74. 40% Aug 28, 2012
Two games up and 14 over .500 as we start a road trip in Houston. Down 2-1, Belt led off the ninth with a base hit and Joaquin Arias tied the score with a double to left off Wilton Lopez.  We’d win the game 3-2 to extend our lead to 3.5 games.

73. 43% Apr 11, 2014
Early in the season, only the 11th game in, we trailed the Rockies 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth, 2 out, bases loaded, Madison Bumgarner hit a grand slam off of Jorge de la Rosa. We’d win 6-5.

72. 43% May 18, 2010
Second game of a two game series in SD, we go to 22-16 when we beat the Padres in 12. This is a good example of everyone on a roster being needed to win over the course of a season, with two out in a 4-4 game, Ryan Rohlinger and Eli Whiteside both singled, Matt Downs then doubled down the left field line to score both, we go up 6-4 and win 7-6.

71. 44% Apr 3, 2014
We opened the season with 4 in Phoenix, this game ended the series, we were down 5-3 in the 8th but had plated two against Will Harris to tie the score. With 2 on and 2 out, Angel Pagan hit a three run homer and that would be the final score, 8-5.

70. 46% April 9, 2010
Home opener vs. Braves, trying to stay unbeaten to go 4-0, one out in the bottom of the 9th, Edgar Renteria hits a two strike two run game tying homer to left off Billy Wagner. We’d go on to win in 13.

      69. 46% Apr 28, 2012
The Giants spend a lot of April hovering around .500, we came in 10-10 after dropping the first game of a home series to the Padres. Down 1-0 in the 7th with runners on the corners and two out, Brandon Belt doubled them both home off Anthony Bass – giving us a 2-1 run lead that would hold up the rest of the way.

68. 48% May 9, 2010
We had lost first two in NY, both on walk offs, dropping us to 17-12, we’re down 5-4 in the 8th, Aaron Rowand hits a two run homer into the teeth of the wind off Jenrry Mejia, we go up 6-5 and that would be the final score.

67. 49% March 31, 2014
Opening Day in Phoenix.  7-7 in the 9th, 2 out, 1 on, Buster Posey hits what will turn out to be a game winning homer against Addison Reed, we held on for a 9-8 win.

66. 43% July 22 2014
Same game as #81. We were up 10, then down 1, now up a half game in the west in this second game of a series in Philly.  With the bases loaded and two out in the 14th, Brandon Crawford broke a 5-5 tie with a three run double  We won 9-6 to extend our lead to 1.5.

65. 43% July 23 2014
The day after #66, The Giants were 21 over .500, dropped all the way to 9 over – but entered here 14 over and with a game and a half lead after taking the first two in Philadelphia.  Bases loaded, two out in a scoreless top of the 9th – Hunter Pence cleared the bases with a double. We’d go onto win 3-1 to take a 2.5 game lead in the west.

64. 44% Aug 27, 2014
What was a 10 game lead was now a 4.5 game deficit, 2-2, bottom of the ninth, Buster Posey walked off Juan Nicasio with a 3 run homer to beat the Rockies.

63. 49% June 7 2014

20 games over .500 and looking unstoppable, the Giants were down 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th when Hunter Pence doubled home Angel Pagan to tie the game.  We’d go on to win 5-4 to go up 10 in the west.

62. 46% July 13 2014
A ten game lead not much more than a month before had now turned to a half game deficit, the Giants playing a rubber game against the Snakes on a Sunday afternoon.  Down 1-0 with two out in the fifth, Buster Posey hit a grand slam off of Vidal Nuno (becoming, with Madison Bumgarner, the first ever battery to grand slam in the same game) and we went onto win 8-4.

61. 45% July 20, 2010
A couple weeks before we were in 4th place, 7.5 out – but after beating the Dodgers the previous day, we moved to four back and in second place.  Down 5-4 in the 9th we chased Jonathan Broxton by loading the bases with one out (Don Mattingly, managing after Joe Torre's ejection, inadverantly took a second trip to the mound, necessitating the decision; Clayton Kershaw was ejected earlier) George Sherrill came in and Andres Torres got him with a two run double, flipping the game, putting us up 6-5. We won 7-5 and moved to 3 back.

60.  50% April 15 2014
Games in April count as much as games in September, first place Dodgers come to town, we’re a game back – down 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, Kenley Jansen on the mound, with one out and one out, Brandon Belt doubled to the left field corner, scoring Angel Pagan from first.  We’d win it in 10.

59. 16% Sep 30 2010
Game 159, up 2 on the Padres and we extend that to 3, by beating the Snakes at home– Andres Torres breaks a 1-1 tie with a homer in the 5th.  We win 4-1. Our magic number to win the west for the first time in 7 years moved to 1.

Nate is Great in the pinch. Uribe delivers in the clutch. B-Weez shuts it down for the save and the Giants now have a 2 game lead over the Padres with 5 games left.

58. 17% Sep 28 2010
Game 157, the DBacks in town two days before #59, tied at two in the 6th with two out, Nate Schierholtz singles home Pablo Sandoval and we’d go onto win 4-2, extending our lead over San Diego to two games.

57. 25% Sep 29, 2010
Middle game in the Arizona series that has been the covered in the prior two moments. Two up with 5 left, we keep that lead here, down 1-0 in the 4th Pat Burrell hits a three run homer off Ian Kennedy and that winds up being the final score.

56.  27% Sep 21 2010
12 left in the season, Giants a half up, we’re in Chicago and beat the Cubs 1-0 with an 8th inning Buster Posey homer.

55. 29% Sep 19 2010
13 left in the season, Giants a half out, we get it going in the first with a Jose Guillen grand slam, we beat the Brewers 9-2 to move into first. Jose Guillen was the author of the 55th greatest moment in Giants dynasty history.  Yes he was.

54. 29% Sep 24 2010
Game 154, Giants need to win to keep their half game lead in the West on the Padres, down 1-0 in the 7th, Pat Burrell hits a two run homer to give us what will wind up the last runs in a 2-1 win over the Rox that dropped Colorado five back.

53. 16% Sep 9 2010
Pennant race baseball, 2nd place Giants at first place Padres, we come in two back, up 1-0, Aubrey Huff hit a two run homer in the third to put us up 3-0, we won 7-3 to pull to a game out.

52. 20% Sept 12 2010
Down a game to San Diego with 19 left, Buster Posey hit a two run homer of Mat Latos in the first to give us a 2-0 lead, we’d win 6-1 to pull into a tie.

51. 13% Oct 7 2010 NLDS Game 1
Home against the Braves to open the NLDS, the first playoff game of the Dynasty is the first to appear on this list. Cody Ross busts open a scoreless tie in the 4th with a two out single to score  Buster Posey. It was the only run of the game.

Halfway down.  Back next week for part 3.

4. Here's genocidal racist Fox News contributor Mark Fuhrman's take on the below video.

I'll tell you why it's not excessive. He verbalized, he made contact, he verbalized, he was polite. He requested her. He verbally did that. The next level is he put a hand on her. She escalated it from there. He used soft control. He threw her on the ground, he handcuffed her. He didn't use mace. He didn't use a Taser. He didn't use a stick. He didn't kick her. He didn't hit her. He didn't choke her. He used a minimal amount of force necessary to effect an arrest. [Fox News, Hannity10/27/15]

8. Courage.

My whole life, really, has been a no, and I fought through it. And, you, know, I talk about it. It’s not been easy for me, it has not been easy for me. You know, I started off in Brooklyn. My father gave me a small loan of a million dollars. I came into Manhattan, and I had to pay him back, and I had to pay him back with interest. But I came into Manhattan and I started buying properties, and I did great.
