David Gregory's Email to Mark Sanford.

Left you a message. Wanted you to hear directly from me that I want to have the Gov on Sunday on Meet The Press. I think it's exactly the right forum to answer the questions about his trip as well as giving him a platform to discuss the economy/stimulus and the future of the party. You know he will get a fair shake from me and coming on MTP puts all of this to rest.
... So coming on Meet The Press allows you to frame the conversation how you really want to...and then move on. You can see (sic) you have done your interview and then move on. Consider it.
One of my favorite games is "pretend it was a Democrat." Like "pretend it was a Democrat who was President during 9/11. Pretend it was a Democrat who received a briefing just a week prior entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the US.' Pretend it was a Democrat who then, in the remaining 7 years of his Presidency never got Bin Laden. Pretend it was a Democrat who said in March of 2002 "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
What do you suppose the reaction of the mainstream media would have been? What do you suppose Fox News would have said. What would have happened to that Democratic President?
In that spirit - at the top is one (just one) of the many emails sent by mainstream media luminaries to Mark Sanford when he was..er...hiking.
Read it again.
You can frame the conversation the way you want to and then move on.
If Sanford had been a Democrat and that email were to come to light - what would the response have been?
Would there be any political discussion other than "that awful liberal media - this proves it!"
Would David Gregory be able to keep his job?
