Forever Giants:1998 San Francisco Giants Year 41 (116)

Saturday, March 14, 2015

1997 is here.

My WAR calculation is a combination of Baseball-reference and Clay Davenport; I believe it to be the "best" WAR number available for historical comparison. 8 WAR is an MVP quality season.  The record is pythagorean adjusted for 162 games.

1998 91-72
C Brian Johnson 1
1B JT Snow .6
2B Jeff Kent  5.5
SS Rich Aurilia 2
3B Bill Mueller 3.35
LF Barry Bonds 9.1 MVPQ
CF Darryl Hamilton 1.8
RF Stan Javier 1.5
3B Charlie Hayes 1.15
SS Rey Sanchez 1.7
RF Marvin Benard 1.45
C Brett Mayne .55
RF Ellis Burks  1
RF Joe Carter .05
RF Chris Jones -.7
SP Mark Gardner 1.6
SP Orel Hershiser 1.3
SP Kirk Rueter .95
SP Russ Ortiz .25
SP Danny Darwin -1.6
RP Rob Nen 5.55
RP John Johnstone 1.7

-And we're back, 91 pythag wins, our best season since '93, another MVPQ season for Bonds who is now above 50 WAR and in the top ten for all time Giants; he also hits his 400th homer.  The Giants finished the regular season in a Wild Card tie, but lost the play in game to the Cubs.
