Here are the top 5 July 2 moments in San Francisco Giants history.

Walk off 1963 home vs. Braves, maybe the greatest pitched game in the history of the sport, a 16 inning complete game shutout by Juan Marichal (who threw a no hitter 2 and a half weeks prior) and a 15 1/3 inning complete game by Warren Spahn, it ends with an out in the bottom of the 16th when Willie Mays homers into the wind in left off of Spahn to give us a 1-0 win.  Spahn was 42 years old.  Marichal threw 227 pitches, Spahn 201.

1973 at Atlanta, we're 11 over .500 but 5.5 back, plenty of good seats still available in Atlanta, fewer than 7000 paid on a Monday night, down 5-4 with 2 out in the 8th, Chris Speier hits a 2 run homer off of Joe Hoerner and we're gonna win this one 9-5.  Speier's 23, in his third year as our starting shortstop, he'll keep that job until early '77 when we send him to the Expos for Tim Foli.

1988 home vs. Pirates, 5.5 back as we near the halfway point, we got 3 hits in this this game, singles in the second and third and then an Ernie Riles single to lead off the 8th with the score 1-0 Pirates, Butler and Clark then walked, and with the bases loaded and Candy Maldonado at the plate a Barry Jones wild pitch scored two men - and that 2-1 score would hold up.  How about that one?  The Giants got 3 singles on the day and won the game on a wild pitch that scored two runs.

1989 home vs. Cubs, it's game 81 of the season and we're a game up in the west, Rick Sutcliffe throws a complete game and on the way has a 3-2 8th inning lead with 2 out in the 8th, but Kevin Mitchell hits a 2 run homer and we're gonna win this one 4-3.  We move to 15 over .500.  8 WAR for Mitch in '89, the best season for any LF in franchise history not named Barry Bonds.

Walk off 2000 home vs. Dodgers, 6.5 out as we near the halfway mark, 5-5 in the bottom of the 9th, Marvin Benard leads off with a homer off of Mike Fetters to end the game.  This was the first season at Pac Bell, and this was the first walk off hit of any type in the new ballpark.  It's the only walk off of Benard's career.

July 1 - Top 5 Moments in San Francisco Giants History

Here are the top 5 July 1 moments in San Francisco Giants history.

1962 home vs. Phillies, 23 games over .500 but still neck and neck in the NL, only a half game lead, every game important, we trail 4-3 in the 8th, bases loaded, 2 out - Willie Mays singles home the tying and go ahead runs off of Art Mahaffey.  We win this one 5-4.  10 WAR for Mays in '62, the 4th best season of his career.

1986 at Atlanta, a half game out of first place in the West, 6-6 in the 10th, 2 out, bases loaded - Candy Maldonado clears the bases with a single off Joe Johnson and we win the game 9-6 to move into first. Maldonado was our 4th OF in '86, coming over in the deal with the Dodgers in the offseason, his career season would come in '87.

2002 at Colorado, we're 10 over .500 but 4.5 out of the West lead, down 6-5 in the 9th, we put the first two on in the inning and then Jeff Kent hits a 3 run homer off of Jose Jimenez, we win the game 8-6. Kent's second best year with the bat, a 147 OPS+, he's an 8 WAR player in '02.  He won the MVP two years prior, but this season was every bit as good as that.  It's his 230th career home run.

2011 at Detroit, 10 games over .500 and with a 2 game lead in the West, we're up 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth but the Tigers have the bases loaded with 1 out, Brian Wilson is removed for Jeremy Affeldt, who gets Brennan Boesch to line to Brandon Crawford, he steps on the bag at second for the double play to end the game.  Affeldt signed with the Giants for the '09 season after a year in Cincinnati, that was his career year, he had a 246 ERA+ in 62 innings as a lefty specialist - he finishes his career as a Giant after the 2015 season.

Walk off 2012 home vs. Reds, 9 over .500 and a game up in the West, 3-3 with 2 out in the 9th, Angel Pagan doubles home Buster Posey off of Jose Arredondo to win the game (Jay Bruce misplayed the ball in RF)  We got Pagan in the offseason from the Mets for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez, he's worth 5 WAR in '12, his best season as a Giant.

June 30 - Top 5 Moments in San Francisco Giants History

Here are the top 5 June 30 Moments in San Francisco Giants History

1982 home vs. Reds, we're 11.5 out of first as June ends but looking for a 3 game sweep of the Reds, 4300 paid for this four hour weekday night game at the Stick - number of actual bodies in attendance at game's end you'd readily be able to count.  We were down 6-5 in the ninth with 2 out when Milt May tied the game with a run scoring double off of Jim Kern.  We signed May before the '80 season and made him our starting catcher and he was good, had a 118 OPS+ in '81, this is his last season as the primary catcher, when Brenly takes over in '83 we'll trade him to the Pirates, where he began his career.

Walk off 1982 home vs. Reds, same game, 6-6 with 2 out in the 12th, Duane Kuiper at the plate - Johnnie LeMaster scores the winning run on a Charlie Liebrandt wild pitch.  It's Kuiper's first year with the Giants and the best year with the bat of his career with a 101 OPS+.  We got Kuiper from the Indians in the offseason for Ed Whitson, he was a backup second baseman until '85 when he played just 9 games.  Through the 2016 season, Kuiper remains an iconic Giants broadcaster.

1991 at San Diego, we're a dozen out and playing a 3 and a half hour game at Jack Murphy, we get them in 10, Will Clark breaks a 7-7 tie with a single off Craig Lefferts to score Willie McGee with what turns out to be the winning run.  Will led all of baseball with 303 total bases in '91 and finished 4th in the MVP race.  It's his 3rd best Giants season.

Walk off 1995 home vs Padres, we're 2.5 out, we walked off the Rockies in our previous game, down 6-4 with an out in the 9th - Barry Bonds hits a 3 run homer off Trevor Hoffman to send everyone home.  Barry's second homer of the game, he went 4-5. Barry had a 1.069 lifetime OPS in 24 plate appearances against Hoffman this is one of the 2 homers he hit against him.  10 career walk off homers for Bonds, this is his third - and his first one as a Giant. It's also his only career walk off when his club was behind by more than 1 run, in fact, this is his only Giants walk off homer with the team behind.  There you go.

1997 at Seattle, this is game 81, at the midpoint of the season and we've got a 4.5 game lead, the Mariners also came into this one in first, up 5.5 in the AL West - over 40,000 paid for a Monday night showdown in the Kingdome, 6-6 in the 10th, Glenallen Hill singles home Jeff Kent off of Bobby Ayala, we'd win the game 8-6.  Hill had a 91 OPS+ in '91, other than '93 that's the worst full season mark of his career.  He's going to join these Mariners in '98.
