April 10- Top Five Moments in San Francisco Giants History
Yesterday
What is this all about?
Here are the top 5 moments on April 10 in San Francisco Giants history.
1963 at Houston, the Giants were way down here, 7-4 in the 8th inning when Ed Bailey pinch hit a 2 out grand slam off of Don McMahon to give us an 8-7 lead on the way to a win of the same score. Big year for Bailey with the bat; his career OPS+ was 110, but in '63 it was a career high 147.
Walk off: 1968 home vs Mets, opening day, a one game series, down 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th, Jesus Alou hits a 2 run double off Danny Frisella to win the game 5-4. Jesus Alou was a bad baseball player and almost amazingly got 15 seasons of sub replacement level plate appearances to continue to prove that.
Walk off: 1979 home vs Padres, 2-2, 2 outs, John Tamargo pinch hits a game winning 2 run homer off of John D'Acquisto and we win 4-2. It's one of only five career homers for Tamargo.
1984 home vs Pirates, 8th inning, down 3-2, Jack Clark hit a 2 run homer off Larry McWilliams to give the Giants the final margin of a 4-3 victory. Clark came up to the Giants when he was 19 years old in '75; this is his final season, he gets moved to the Cards for a package of players, the best of which turns out to be Jose Uribe. Through 2016, by WAR, he remains in the top 40 players in franchise history.
Walk off: 2002 home vs. Dodgers, come on, you know you're ready for a Giants/Dodgers walk off - how about Barry Bonds doubling home David Bell off of Paul Quantrill in the bottom of the 9th to give us a 2-1 win? Bonds had the best OPS+ of his career in '02, 268.
See you tomorrow. Go Giants!
