Went back to Kansas City and won the Cy Young in '94, and the Yankees get him at the deadline in '95 from the Jays for some prospects who didn't pan out. He's 4th in the Cy Young that year, 4th again last year for the '98 team who has also advanced to this round; and 6th this year, the last really good year of his career. He'll leave the Yankees in '01 and finish his career back with the Mets in '03 at the age of 40. He gets two - but then Ryan Howard homers to dead center. Phillies 1 Yankees 0
1st: There's one Hall of Famer on this Phillies team and he's on the mound today. Doc Halladay is a 34 year old RH, 19-6, 2.35 -- he came up in '98 with the Jays, so was in the AL East in '99, pitching against this Yankee team. He won the Cy Young in '03, had top 5 finishes each year from '06-'09 and was traded before the '10 season for guys not as good as he was. He won the Cy Young that year - this year he finished second, it's his last good season, he's out of the league after 2013. 1-2-3
2nd: John Mayberry doubles - he's taken the LF job from Raul Ibanez for this tournament; Mayberry's 27, came up 2 years ago, he'll never really hit much again after this season, he'll be in Philly until '14 and finish his career with the Mets the following season. He's stranded at second.

3rd: The first Yankee baserunner is Chuck Knoblauch, who singles. Knoblauch was AL Rookie of the Year in '91 with the Twins, the Yankees got him prior to last season - he starts to slide after this season and will finish his career in Kansas City in '02. That's all Halladay allows.
4th: Placido Polanco singles with one out - Polanco's 35 - this is his 14th year in the bigs, broke in with the Cards back in '98, his first Phillies stint began in '02, they ship him to the Tigers in '05, and he came back to Philadelphia last year as a free agent. Two years from now, he finishes as a Marlin. That's all.

1st: Orlando Hernandez is a 33 year old RH, 17-9, 4.12 - the Yanks are down a game and theyve got to somehow find a way to hit this Philadelphia pitching. This is Il Duque's second year in the bigs; so he's also on that '98 team we'll see later on in the round. He was 4th in AL Rookie of the Year last year. He'll spend 6 years in New York, traded before the '03 season twice, but not pitch in '03, and then return to the Yankees as a free agent in '04. After that season he's back to the White Sox and eventually winds up finishing his career as a Met in '07. He gets the first 2 - then walks Ryan Howard and gives up a run scoring double to Hunter Pence. Phillies 1 Yankees 0
1st: Doc Halladay was 2nd in the NL Cy Young - today's starter was 3rd. Cliff Lee is a 32 year old lefty. 17-8, 2.40. He broke in in '02 with Cleveland, 4th in the Cy Young in '05, won it in '08, came over at the deadline in '09 with Ben Francisco for, among others, Carlos Carrasco - the Phillies turned around and sent him to the Mariners after the season and he signed back with Philadelphia as a free agent this year. He'll have one more All-Star year in '13 and then '14 is his last season. He walks Knoblauch - but that's all.
2nd: Mayberry walks and an out later Ruiz does as well - but Hernandez keeps it here.
2nd: Chili Davis singles - Chili is now 39 years old; he broke in with the Giants 18 years ago, back in 1981 when he was 21. 4th in NL Rookie of the Year in '82. He'll spend 7 seasons in San Francisco before leaving for the Angels in '88. Chili just kept hitting as he aged, his career OPS+ is 121 - last year was his first in New York, and this is his last year in the bigs. Lee doesnt allow anything else.

4th: With one out, Ruiz walks/Polanco singles - the Phillies are piling up the baserunners but still it's 1-0.

5th: Paul O'Neill singles. He was 22 when he came up in '85 with the Reds, He's in Cincinnati 8 seasons and the Yankees trade Roberto Kelly for him before 1993. His best seasons all come in pinstripes including a 5th place MVP finish in '94. Last year was his last to make an All Star team and '01 is his final season. The Yankees still cannot score.
6th: 23 year old Domonic Brown is serving as the Phillies DH in New York; he's 23, he came up a year ago and will spend his entire 6 year career in Philadelphia. He walks and Ruiz singles - Polanco then doubles and it's 3-0 and you can't imagine the Yankees can score 4 today. Victorino then singles - that scores another run; after two out Ryan Howard walks, that's where it stops. Phillies 4 Yankees 0

1st: Citizens Bank Park - the Philly fans smell Yankee blood; 27 year old Cole Hamels is on the mound to extract it; 14-9, 2.79 - broke in in 2006, 6th in the Cy Young in 2007, 5th this year, he's got top 10 finishes coming in '12 and '14 and he'll be sent to Texas during the '15 season. He gives up a one out Jeter double and then a two out Curtis single, but the Yanks do not score.
1st: The greatest pitcher in modern history is Roger Clemens; he's not that guy this year, he's 36, 14-10, 4.60. He was 6th in the AL Rookie of the Year for Boston back in '84, won the MVP/Cy Young in '86, won the Cy Young again the following year, won it again in '91. left Boston for Toronto and won back to back Cy Youngs in '97 and '98 and this is his first year as a Yankee, they got him prior to the season in a deal for David Wells, among others. Clemens will spend the next 5 seasons in New York, winning the Cy Young in 2001, head to Houston and win the Cy Young in 2004 at the age of 41 and finish his career back with the Yankees in '07. 1-2-3
2nd: O'Neill singles and Tino Martinez walks; Martinez came up with the Mariners in 1990, the Yankees got him prior to the '96 season in a deal with Jeff Nelson for Russ Davis and Sterling Hitchcock; he was second in the AL MVP in '97, and be in the New York through the 2001 season when he then signs with the Cardinals as a free agent. He'll come back to New York and finish his career in '05. Hamels gets the next two, then gives up a run scoring single to Knoblauch - the Yankees first lead of the series. Hamels then hits Jeter to load the bases - and gives up a Bernie Williams single that scores two more. Chad Curtis then singles - the Yankee team has finally hit the ball, Yankees 4 Phillies 0

3rd: Martinez singles with one out, and after the second out Clemens helps himself with a base hit - That's it.
3rd: Carlos Ruiz singles, he's the first Phillies baserunner, two outs later Clemens hits Victorino - and that sure smells like its retaliation for Jeter's being hit last inning and we'll see how that develops. Clemens then walks Utley - but it ends there.
4th: Bernie Williams hits a one out triple - Williams is 30, up in '91, his only top 10 MVP finish was last season; he's in the middle of a 5 year All Star run; he'll retire as a Yankee after the '06 campaign. Hamels strands him at third.
4th: Pence walks, after two outs there's a runner on second who scores the Phillies first run on a Ruiz single. Polanco then walks - and a Hamels single scores a second run. Yankees 4 Phillies 2

7th: Martinez doubles with 2 out - the Phillies decide to walk Brosius to get to the pitchers spot - Ricky Ledee comes in to hit for Clemens, Hamels gets him.
7th: For the third straight game Jason Grimsley comes out of the Yankee pen, after an out, Howard reaches on an error and Pence walks, but Grimsley works through it.
8th: The Phillies pitcher is 24 year old RH Michael Stutes, he's got a 3.63 ERA - he walks Williams with two out, nothing else.
8th: Carlos Ruiz hits Grimsley's first pitch over the wall in right center and now it's 5-4 and a huge roar envelopes the state of Pennsylvania. After two out - Victorino triples and the tying run is just 90 feet away. Grimsley walks Utley and that ends his day, 32 year old RH Jeff Nelson comes on in the big spot carrying a 4.15 ERA. He came up with the Mariners in '92, sent to the Yankees before the '96 season in the Tino Martinez deal; he'll go back to the Mariners in '01...come back to the Yankees in '03...and do one more stint in Seattle before finishing with the White Sox in '06. Madson broke in in '03, his only unsuccessful season to this date was the only season he started, '06. This is his first year as closer and his last year as a Phillie; he's going to miss the next 3 seasons and resurface with the Royals in 2015. His career ends as a Dodger in 2018. 1-2-3
9th: 29 year old RH Dan Naulty enters for the Yankees - yes, they should go to Rivera in this spot, absolutely. He gets two - but then gives up a Polanco single - that's the potential winning run - Raul Ibanez comes off the bench -- and he singles -- and now the winning run is in scoring position -- and then VICTORINO SINGLES -- Polanco comes around - and that ends the series.
