Summer Slam is this weekend from Detroit.
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Tribal Combat: Roman Reigns (c) (with Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa) vs. Jey Uso
-Reasonable minds can differ about the quality of the matches in the Bloodline program (despite being heavily booked, I think they're largely pretty good/good enough to be at the top of the WWE card) and about the cadence of the storyline (we're a couple of years in, by and large, I still want to watch the segments and my tolerance for talking segments can be limited). There is absolutely no room to dispute that this program has been a monster success, a winner in every conceivable metric and has grabbed the wrestling business by the throat. I have real admiration for the crafting of the program.
Reigns is keeping this belt. Jimmy returns and they either flip him back to Roman's side or they do not. It should be good...really really long, but good.

World Heavyweight Championship: Seth "Freakin" Rollins (c) vs. Finn Bálor
-A rising tide lifts all boats - the Judgment Day has now become a ratings driver, including lifting NXT numbers; I'm less enthusiastic about that act, but it's not terrible, and again, at some point you tip your cap to WWE creative's results. This should be a switch; Balor winning gives the Judgment Day four pirces of hardware. The prior match between these two was fine, but disappointing - I'd assume better here.
(3 3/4, solidly worked, they did a lot of booking to get to the finish, which was Rollins keeping the title)
WWE Women's Championship Asuka (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair
-Not particularly compelling is the non-Ripley components of the women's division, but these are good wrestlers and Asuka can be better than that, a switch to Flair seems likely.
(Didnt work at all, 20 minutes of it just not finding any kind of gear, Belair took and then Sky cashed the briefcase and won the title)
WWE Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (c) (with Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci) vs. Drew McIntyre
-Gunther's having...maybe the greatest IC run ever, which I appreciate is sacrilege, but given the length, the dominance, and a couple of high end matches, it's worthy of a discussion. At some point it ends - if McIntyre has re-signed, this feels reasonable to be that point (waiting until a UK return makes more sense) and if he has not re-signed (I don't believe he has) they should definitely not do that. Probably best match of the night.
(4 stars, they hanged and banged, hung and bung, for 14 minutes, not quite the best match of the night)
Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar
-You can completely see Cody's babyface persona as the public face of this promotion, he's in the Cena phylum and you can also see why the act wore thin in AEW. But it's working without reservation for the WWE Universe, I bet Cody sleeps real well at night as each decision (to leave, to run his own show, to aid in the AEW formation, to come back) seems to have hit the bulls-eye. Governor Rhodes wins this match to end this feud (and it will be good -- Summer Slam 2023 is going to be good)
(4 1/4, this was good - hot crowd, hard hitting, well paced, good on Lesnar for being able to run that hard at this point in his career, Brock turns back postmatch and Cody continues his likely run to the big belt)
Ricochet vs. Logan Paul
-Well, maybe this will be the best match of the show- this is the biggest spotlight that's been on Ricochet in WWE, Logan Paul is...look, Logan Paul's just good at this, good at every element of this, there's not a push which would be excessive for Logan Paul. Every time these guys have been in the ring together it's worked and this is gonna work, I assume Paul goes over.
(3 3/4 stars; Paul did go over, the overly deliberate WWF house style did not do this match justice;
when doing a spotfest...just do the damn spotfest; still, there were spots and they were well executed
and Paul did go over.
MMA Rules: Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler
-It's the end of this run for Rousey (which might mean the end of Rousey full stop, given that this run did not have the level of success of it's predecessor and I'd guess she understands the need to stop the diminishment of those returns) It will likely be quick and painless.
(Quick, a little too clunky to be painless)
Battle Royal
Ciampa, Nakamura, Gable - we got some good guys here; Knight's gotten over with the live crowds and is a likely winner.
(Twas a perfectly acceptable battle royal)
It's a good show; Vince is back at home, perhaps practicing his escape, leaving him unable to change any of these finishes. You should watch.
