The Raiders are still looking to move their 5th team into Rnd 2; the '77 squad had the best offense in football.   The Snake is 32, 20 scores/20 picks. 25 year old Mark van Eeghen had over 1250 yards rushing in a 14 game season. All Pro seasons for 25 year old Dave Casper, 31 year old Art Shell, 32 year old Gene Upshaw. On defense, 37 year old Willie Brown and 29 year old Jack Tatum combined for 10 picks.

We get the All Bay Area matchup in round 1, the Super Bowl Champions from 1988 look to make San Francisco the first organization with 7 representatives into round 2.  They're seeded 12th in region 12, absent that Super Bowl appearance, they wouldn't make the field - Montana is 32, 21 scores and 12 picks in 13 games. 28 year old Roger Craig is an All Pro with over 2000 yards from scrimmage and 10 scores. 26 year old Jerry Rice also had ten scores in being named All Pro.  11.5 sacks for 24 year old Charles Haley, a dozen picks combined from 29 year old Ronnie Lott and 25 year old Tim McKyer -- it's Walsh against Madden - Oakland against San Francisco - lets go to the East Bay for the kick.

The Raiders will start at the 17.

3 and out.  Niners will start at their own 39.  

1/10 - Walsh opens with the trickeration - a flea flicker -- give to Craig -- back to Montana -- he's got a wide open Tom Rathman down the sideline -- he's got him -- there's no one between Rathman and the End Zone -- 40---30--20---TOUCHDOWN 49ERS a flea flicker turns into a 61 yard TD pass on San Francisco's first play of the game and the Niners with the quick lead.

Raiders starting deep in their own end at the 5.

Another 3 and out.  Niners in great shape at the Oakland 48.

1/10 - Joe Montana again - he finds John Frank, 7 yard gain.
2/3 - Roger Craig up the middle for 7.
1/10 - Rathman stopped at the line.
2/10 - Incomplete
3/10 - Draw - Craig -- Craig through the line and he will be just short, Roger Craig picks up 9 yards all the way to the Raider 24.

Walsh is gonna go for it -- foot on the pedal.

4/1 - Rathman....picks it up and the Niners have the first down.  

1/10 - John Matuszak is through the lien - he brings Montana down.
2/14 - Montana -- looking to the endzone ----- Incomplete
3/14 -- Montana --- he's got Jerry Rice over the middle -- Rice has a step -- Jerry Rice is gonna go --- Into the End Zone -- TOUCHDOWN 49ERS - Montana to Rice, 27 yard strike - the Niners score on their first two drives of the game and it is 14-0 San Francisco.

2/8 - Incomplete
3/8 - Kenny Stabler's first complete pass, it's 17 yards to Dave Casper for the first down.
1/10 - 2 more for Van Eeghen
2/8 - A yard for Clarence Davis
3/7 - Stabler - Cliff Branch -- that's ten yards as the Raiders cross midfield.
1/10 - Carl Garrett gets the carry, he goes for 6.
2/4 - Van Eeghen picks it up, Raiders at the 36.  
1/10 - A yard for Van Eeghen as the qtr ends

2nd Qtr: 49ers 14 Raiders 0
Montana with 2 TD passes, Raiders have a second and 9 at the Niner 35.

2/9 - Stabler -- he finds Fred Biletnikoff down the seam - Biletnikoff gets all the way to the 49er 3 yard line!  32 yards from the Snake to Biletnikoff and the Raiders have a first and goal.
1/10 -- Play action -- Stabler -- End Zone - Casper -- TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS - Stabler finds Casper in the End Zone and the Raiders dent the scoreboard.  80 yards, 7 minutes and Oakland cuts the deficit in half.

Niners at the 21.

1/10 - Montana - Rice --- PICKED OFF BY WILLIE BROWN - Old Man Willie racing down the sideline -- Old Man Willie is gonna go -- Into the End Zone -- TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS -- Willie Brown with the Pick 6 on Joe Montana and just like that the Raiders have tied this game at 14.

Niners again at the 21.

1/10 - Craig - sweep left, Craig's got a block -- Roger Craig high steps his way 21 yards to the Niner 42.  
1/10 - Craig, stopped at the line.
2/10 - Montana - over the middle to Rathman in space -- 18 yards for Rathman and the Niners are at the Oakland 39 yard line.  

But that's all - Walsh turns down a shot at a long FG - instead a punt pins the Raiders at their own 7.

2/8 - Incomplete
3/8 - Van Eeghen picks it up, Raiders at the 18.
1/10 - a yard for Davis
2/9 - 5 for Van Eeghen
3/4 - Stabler picks it up - hits Mike Siani for 7 and the Raiders are at the 31.

The drive ends here, Charles Haley gets a third down sack - after the punt, Niners at the 36.

3 and out.    Raider ball at the 28 just before the 2 minute warning.

1/10 - 8 yards for Clarence Davis and Bill Romanowski picks up a personal foul on a vicious face mask - that takes Oakland to the Niner 49.
1/10 - Stabler - 18 yards to Casper - Raiders at the 31 and they stop the clock.  
1/10 - Van Eeghen gets a yard.
2/9 - Stabler- 7 yards to Branch, he is out of bounds at the 49er 23 yard line, 1:36 left in the half.  Tied at 14.  
3/2 - Van Eeghen picks it up - Raiders call their second time out at 1:27 to go in the half, Oakland at the 20.

1/10 - Van Eeghen - he's got 7 yards, clock rolling, Stabler quickly to the line
2/3 - Stabler - Clarence Davis -- he's got a step -- he's got a step -- Clarence Davis will be dragged out of bounds at the 49er one yard line!  
1/goal - Snake...Sneak...he is stopped cold by Michael Carter, clock running - 
2/goal - Van Eeghen....Into the End Zone -- TOUHCDOWN RAIDERS - Oakland is going to miss the XP -- but with 42 seconds left in the half, that's 20 consecutive Raider points to take the 20-14 lead.

Niners at the 20.

1/10 - Montana - Craig -- Craig breaks a tackle -- Craig breaks a second tackle -- Roger Craig In Space -- Roger Craig is Going to Go all the way down to the Raider 40 yard line!  40 yards from Montana to Craig - 40 yards and he is out of bounds, Niners with 25 seconds left in the half.
1/10 - Montana -- over the middle to Frank -- John Frank with the 15 yard gain to the Raider 25 yard line -- 49ers stop the clock with 14 seconds left in the half.  First down at the Raider 25.
1/10 - Ted Hendricks is through the line - he sacks Montana, big play, just 6 seconds left now in the half, Niners at the 30.  Walsh brings in the FG team - 47 yarder for Mike Cofer.....is Goood -- and we go to halftime

3rd Qtr: Raiders 20 49ers 17
Nice drive to end the half for San Francisco - but it follows 20 consecutive second quarter Oakland points and the Raiders have the lead as we come out of the locker room.

Good John Taylor runback, Niners at the 41.

1/10 - Rathman gets a yard.
2/9- Rathman stopped at the line.
3/9 - Montana - Craig-- Craig in space, he's got the 20 yard pickup, Niners at the 38.
1/10 - Incomplete
2/10 - 5 yards for Craig
3/5 - Montana - Rice -- he picks it up, 8 yards to the Oakland 25.
1/10 - 6 for Craig.
2/4 - Craig gets a yard.  
3/3 - Montana -- Rice -- once more he picks it up, 7 yards to the Raider 11.
1/10 - Craig -- Craig is Through - Into the End Zone --- TOUCHDOWN 49ERS - San Francisco comes out of the locker room and takes it right down the field to regain the lead on the 11 yard Roger Craig TD run.  

Oakland at the 19.  Niners up 24-20.

2/6 - 4 more for Van Eeghen
3/2 - Clarence Davis picks it up
1/10 - Davis is stopped in the backfield.
2/12 - Davis back to the line.  
3/10 - Stabler -- Biletnikoff right at the sticks - sits down for the pickup to the 43.
1/10 - Van Eeghen busts one, 24 yards to the San Francisco 33 yard line.

The drive ends here --- Errol Mann with the 48 yard FG....it's goood -- and with a minute and a half left in the third the Niners lead 24-23.

1/10-  Rathman gets 5
2/5 - Craig -- Roger Craig busts one -- Roger Craig busts one -- Roger Craig goes 57 yards - Roger Craig goes 57 yards to the Raider 10 yard line and that's where the quarter will end.

4th Qtr: 49ers 24 Raiders 23
We got a good one here in the 12/5, the Niners up a point in Oakland, first and goal at the 10.

The drive ends here -- Niners settle for the Cofer FG and it's 27-23.

1/10 - Stabler 7 yards to Branch
2/3 - Van Eeghen picks it up, Raiders at their own 43.  
1/10 - Davis gets a yard
2/9 - Stabler to Mike Siani, first down at the Niner 45, with 10 minutes left, Oakland is at the San Francisco 45.  

But the drive stalls - Madden turns down the attempt at the long FG - after the Guy punt, Niners at their own 16, we are halfway through the 4th, Niners with the ball, up 4.  

1/10 - Incomplete
2/10 - Montana - Rice -- 12 yards to the 28.  Stays inbounds, clock running.  
1/10 - Montana sacked on the safety blitz, Jack Tatum coming through and ripping Montana to the turf.  Niners have to stop the clock as Joe clears the cobwebs. 
2/15 - 12 yard pickup for Craig.  
3/3 - Rathman picks up the huge first down -- San Francisco at their own 42 with 5 minutes left in the game.  

The drive ends here - Hendricks gets the 4th Oakland sack -- the Raiders start at their own 17 with 3 minutes left in the game.  

Can the Snake take the Raiders down the field?  Oakland needs to go 83 yards to win this game?

1/10 - Van Eeghen gets 3
2/7 - Clarence Davis -- he breaks one -- Madden not afraid to run the ball in this spot -- huge 26 yard gain - Oakland stops the clock at 2:07 left in the game, Raiders at their own 46 yard line.  

1/10 - Van Eeghen stopped at the line, 2 minute warning.  
2/10 - Incomplete
3/10 - Stabler hits Davis over--- he is Drilled by Ronnie Lott -- Davis can't hold on -- pass is ruled incomplete and it's 4th down.  

4/10 -- Stabler - Van Eeghen -- Van Eeghen fighting to get to the sticks......he is short.  a 9 yard pickup for Mark Van Eeghen -- there's 1:43 left, Niners take over at their own 46.  

Just one first down needed once Oakland uses their timeouts.  

1/10 - Craig into the line, clock stops.
2/8 - Craig into the line, clock stops -- that's the last time Oakland can stop the clock
3/8 - Craig into the lin---- Craig is through the line -- Roger Craig picks up the first down -- Roger Craig has the first down and that will be it- - the 49ers upset the Raiders and the 7th San Francisco team has moved to Round 2.

Oakland scored 20 second quarter points but could only add a FG the rest of the way and the 49ers take out the 5th seed in region 12.
