Yesterday

What is this all about?

Here are the top 5 moments on April 15 in San Francisco Giants history.

1971 home vs. Astros down 2-1 in the 8th, Bobby Bonds hit a 2 run homer off Larry Dierker to put us up 3-2. The best RF in San Francisco history is Bonds, in '71 he hit 33 homers, had a 144 OPS+ and finished 4th in the MVP voting.

Walk off: 1971 home vs. Astros, same game, we walked off the Astros the day before, here, we move to 7-2 on the season when Fran Healy breaks a 3-3 tie in the 10th with a pinch homer off Jim Ray.  Healy had 3 homers in his 2 seasons as a Giant.

1972 at Houston, Opening Day, Willie McCovey breaks a scoreless 6th inning tie with a 2 out, 2 run homer off Don Wilson.  We win the game 5-0.  Three games later McCovey breaks his arm in a collision at first.

2014 home vs. Dodgers down 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, Brandon Belt doubles off Kenley Jansen to score Angel Pagan and tie the game.  Less than a month later Belt breaks his thumb, and a concussion at midseason costs him much of the second half.

Walk off: 2014 home vs. Dodgers, same game, still 2-2, now in the 12th, Hector Sanchez singles home Brandon Crawford off of Brandon League to win the game 3-2. Sanchez got 637 plate appearances in 5 Giants seasons as a backup for Buster Posey. His .301 OBP in 2014 was the lowest of his career to this date.

See you tomorrow.  Go Giants!
