Forever Giants:1937 National League Champion New York Giants(Year 55)

Friday, January 2, 2015

1936 is here.

My WAR calculation is a combination of Baseball-reference and Clay Davenport; I believe it to be the "best" WAR number available for historical comparison. 8 WAR is an MVP quality season.  The record is pythagorean adjusted for 162 games.

1937 NL Champions (lose to Yanks 4-2) 95-67
C Harry Danning 2.25
1B Johnny McCarthy .65
2B Burgess Whitehead 3.5
SS Dick Bartell 6.85
3B Lou Chiozza -1.7
LF Jo Jo Moore 2.3
CF Jimmy Ripple 1.1
RF Mel Ott 5.85
C Gus Mancuso 1.65
OF Wally Berger 1.65
OF Sam Leslie 1.15
OF Hank Leiber .45
SP Carl Hubbell 4.05
SP Cliff Melton 4.75
SP Hal Schumacher 2.35
SP Harry Gumbert 2.1
SP Slick Castleman 1.65

-The Giants spend some of spring training in Cuba, win another pennant, lose to the Yanks again.  Terry's over 90+ pythagorean wins in each of his five seasons as manager, the Giants don't lose anything in the transition from McGraw. Ott moves by Connor as the top Giants position player by WAR ever and Hubbell is now the second greatest Giants pitcher.  Freddie Fitzsimmons finishes his Giant run and spends the rest of his career as a Dodger.

2015 NFL Playoff Predictions

There are only four teams in this years NFL playoffs.  I know it seems like more than that, but there are only four.

If there's a team other than Seattle, Green Bay, New England, Denver in the Super Bowl, It's a real surprise.

Lets run through the tournament.

AFC

Baltimore +3 Pittsburgh
Indianapolis -3 Cincinnati

I'll say the Ravens win straight up as well.

New England over Baltimore (I'll probably advocate taking the points)
Denver over Indianapolis

AFC Championship: Denver over New England

NFC

Detroit +6.5 Dallas (Dallas straight up)
Arizona +6.5 Carolina (Carolina straight up)

Seattle over Carolina
Green Bay over Dallas

NFC Championship: Seattle over Green Bay

Super Bowl 49: Denver over Seattle
