Regional Semis
'62 Packers v. '99 Rams
'78 Cowboys v. '98 49ees

1999 RAMS  23  1962  PACKERS  17
-There has yet to be a Super Bowl Champion to win a region - the '99 Rams are headed to the region 6 finals.  With 11 minutes to play, Jim Taylor scored to give the Packers a 17-13 lead, 4 minutes later St Louis had a 3rd and 8 at the Packer 46, Kurt Warner hit 23 year old Torry Holt with a 19 yard gain to the Green Bay 26 - and on the next play, Marshall Faulk broke loose and scored to make it 20-17 Rams.  St Louis tacks on a late FG for the final score.  2 sacks for 28 year old D'Marco Farr.

1978 COWBOYS 28  1998 49ERS 26
-Thriller in Dallas, the led 14-3 at the half after a Staubach-Billy Joe Dupree TD and a short Robert Newhouse TD run.  San Francisco scored 2 third quarter TDs to take the lead on a short Mark Edwards run and a Young-JJ Stokes short hookup.  Dallas regained the lead midway through the 4th qtr when Staubach hit Drew Pearson with a 19 yard strike to make it 21-20.  After a missed Wade Richey FG a 47 yard Tony Dorsett run set up another short Dorsett run that found the end zone and Dallas went up 28-20 with a minute and a half left.  That was too much time - Young drove the Niners 76 yards, culminating in a 34 yard TD strike to Terrell Owens (Owens! Owens! Owens!) at the gun.  That made it 28-26 - but the 2 pt conversion attempt was turned away when Hollywood Henderson sacked Young to end the game.

REGION 6 FINAL
We will have a 20th century regional champ for the first time; the '78 Cowboys are coached by Tom Landry, they went 12-4, won the NFC Title and lost the Super Bowl to the Steelers.  1st in offense, 3rd in defense. Randy White and Cliff Harris were both All Pros, and both are in the Hall of Fame along with Staubach, Dorsett, Drew Pearson, Rayfield Wright.

There hasn't been a Super Bowl Champion to win a region yet; the '99 Rams look to change that, coached by Dick Vermeil (who was coaching the Eagles in '78, in the same division as these Cowboys) the Rams went 13-3, beating the Titans in the Super Bowl. Warner, Faulk, Orlando Pace and Kevin Carter were all first team All Pros, the first 3 plus Isaac Bruce are all in the Hall of Fame.

Lets head to Texas Stadium for the region 6 final.

3. 1978 COWBOYS  23   5. 1999 RAMS 10
-The '78 Cowboys win region 6 and will head to the sweet 16 to face the eventual winner of region 11. Robert Newhouse had 2 first half TD runs and 144 yard rushing. Martin and White each picked up sacks - D'Marco Farr had 3 sacks in the losing effort.
