What is this all about?

Yesterday

Here are all the October 15 games that mattered in San Francisco Giants history.

1962 World Series Game 6 home vs. Yankees, 5 days after New York took a 3-2 lead the Series resumes, we need a win to force game 7 and we get it. Billy Pierce throws a complete game 3 hitter, we get all our runs in the 4th and 5th off Whitey Ford, Orlando Cepeda drives in runs in both innings, we went up 5-1 and held on for the 5-3 win. It all comes down to Game 7 tomorrow.

1989 World Series game 2, we're down 1-0 and about to go down 2-0. Mike Moore and 2 relievers hold us to 4 hits, we're tied at 1 headed to the 4th when Rick Reuschel gives up 4, the big shot a Terry Steinbach 3 run homer.  And that's your final score, we don't get a baserunner after the 5th inning. The earthquake is next, so game 3 won't take place until October 27.

2002 World Series starts 10-19

2010 NLCS starts tomorrow.

2012 NLCS Game 2 home vs. Cardinals we dropped game 1, need this one to get that split at home, Ryan Vogelsong goes 7, gives up just 4 hits and 1 earned, and we win easily.  Angel Pagan led off with a first inning home run, we put it away in the 4th on a 3 run Marco Scutaro base hit off of Chris Carpenter.  It's a 7-1 Giants victory and we head to St Louis.

2014 NLCS Game 4 home vs. Cardinals, two years later we're in a better spot, up 2-1, again with Vogelsong on the mound - this start doesn't go as well, 3 innings pitched, 4 earned.  Homers by Pierzynski and Wong had the Cards up 4-1 as we headed to the bottom of the third.  We got 2 back in our half off Shelby Miller with run scoring singles by Posey and Pence. Yusmeiro Petit came on and got 3 scoreless innings, taking us to our half of the 6th where we just kept moving over runners until 3 crossed the plate, Posey again came through with a run scoring hit and it's 6-4 good guys. 5 more Giants relievers finish off the last 3 innings and we hold a commanding 3-1 lead, a game away from another pennant.

See you tomorrow.  Go Giants!
