The '76 Colts, '04 Colts, '68 Colts, '58 Colts have all advanced - so this game will determine which franchise gets their fifth representative into the next round (Packers, Broncos, Rams, Patriots, 49ers all have 5; if anyone has more, it is presently escaping me). Shula's '65 Colts were 3rd in offense, 4th in defense. Johnny Unitas is 32, All Pro, 24 scores and 12 picks.  Jimmy Orr's a 30 year All Pro and scored ten times. 31 year old Jim Parker was also an All Pro.  28 year old Bobby Boyd leads the defense, All Pro with 9 picks.  It's Shula against Landry - there's two spots left to claim in region 10, one of these franchises is about to earn their fifth spot.  Let's head to Dallas for the kick.

1/10 - Staubach -- looking up top -- End Zone - Stowe -- TOUCHDOWN COW....there is a flag -- that's gonna come back, Staubach's 44 yard TD strike to Stowe comes back with the holding call, Dallas takes the rest of the half - but a Billy Ray Smith sack knocks them back further - Dallas punts, the half ends.

3rd Qtr: Colts 14 Cowboys 13
Baltimore scores on its first and last possession, couple of Unitas TD passes, in between Dallas scores 13 - so we are tight as we come out of the locker room.

Colts up against it now, they use their final timeout, they'll be able to stop the clock at the 2 minute warning, but that's it - even if they are able to get the ball back, it won't be with much time remaining.  Dallas at their own 28.  They'll run the ball and then we'll have the 2 minute warning.

1/10 - Garrison gets 3.  2 Minutes left.  Cowboys up 3.

The '07 Patriots, '06 Patriots, '14 Patriots, '04 Patriots, '11 Patriots have all advanced - New England tries to move its 6th team forward with the 11th seed in Region 10, the 2018 Super Bowl Champs.  4th best offense in football - 41 year old Tom Brady had 31 scores and 11 picks.  28 year old Stephon Gilmore is the team's All Pro, 25 year old Trey Flowers had 7.5 sacks.  Big crowd at the LA Coliseum for this one - let's go out to sunny Southern California for the kick.

1st Qtr
LA starts at the 33.

And that's all.  The next 3 plays lose 2 yards - after the kick it's Rams at the 31.

1/10 - McCutcheon goes for 13.
1/10 - Bertelsen for 11 -- run, run, run some more.
1/10 - John Hadl finds Harold Jackson, 22 yards -- Rams at the Patriot 23.
1/10 - McCutcheon for 4.
2/6 - Bertelsen gets 5, third and short
3/1 - McCutcheon picks it up.
1/10 - McCutcheon -- he's got a seam -- McCutcheon is going to go --- Into the EndZone...TOUCHDOWN RAMS - 7 plays, 6 of them runs - LA goes 69 yards for the game's first score.

Patriots at the 25.  3 and out.

Rams at the 37.

1/10 - 2 for McCutcheon.
2/8 - Incomplete
3/8 - Hadl finds Bob Klein  right down the middle for a 21 yard gain to the Pats 40 and that's the end of the qtr.

2nd Qtr: Rams 7 Patriots 0
Run the ball, play tight defense - that's the LA formula and that's what we see so far.  LA has a first down at the Pats 40.

1/10 - McCutcheon for 4.
2/6 - Rob Scribner for 9 yards, and now LA is at the 27.
1/10 - 4 for McCutcheon
2/6 - Hadl -- Hadl is looking for the endzone -- Harold Jackson -- TOUCHDOWN RAMS - John Hadl 22 yards to Harold Jackson - Rams go up 14-0.

Patriots at the 22.  3 and out.

1/goal - Bertelsen gets 2
2/goal - 4 for McCutcheon
3/goal - Rob Scribner plunges --- into the endzone --- TOUCHDOWN RAMS - and this is a rout; the Patriots beat the Rams in the Super Bowl and Chuck Knox and the '73 team is getting its revenge.  21-0.

Patriots at the 31.

1/10 - Tom Brady will be throwing the ball a lot the rest of the way.  He hits James White for 10.
1/10 - Incomplete
2/10 - Brady hits Gronk, 15 yards to the Ram 44.
1/10 - Merlin Olsen sacks Brady, loses 3.
2/13 - Brady to Julian Edelman, another first down - Patriots at the 27.
1/10 - Brady to White, a dozen yards - Patriots at the 15.

The drive ends here, Jack Youngblood gets a sack - Gostkowski FG, 21-3.

Rams get the ball back at the 2 minute warning at the 37.

They run the ball 3 times, Patriots use all 3 timeouts - the drive takes just 59 seconds and the Patriots get the ball back at their own 28, 61 seconds left, out of timeouts.

1/10 - Brady dumps it off to Edelman, 3 yards, out of bounds.  55 seconds.
2/7 - Brady to Hogan - 10 yards to the 41 - Brady hurrying to the line, he quickly attempts a pass - incomplete. 36 seconds left.
2/10 - Incomplete
3/10 - Brady - 20 yards to Julian Edelman, he spikes the ball with 11 seconds left to stop the clock at the Rams 39.
2/10 - Brady -- Brady looking to the endzone -- Josh Gordon -- TOUCHDOWN PATRIOTS -- Brady 39 yards to Josh Gordon - that's the half - Patriots trying to climb back into this one.

3rd Qtr: Rams 21 Patriots 10
Pats score twice in the last couple of minutes of the half, they still trail LA by 11.

Patriots start at the 21.

1/10 - Incomplete
2/10 - Brady.  Gronk.  17 yards.
1/10 - Brady - Gordon - 15 yards, I'll tell you what, since the Pats have completely abanoned the run game, just throwing on every play, they are really carving the Rams up.
1/10 - Brady sacked - Isiah Robertson gets him.
2/14 - Brady - Edelman, that's a first down -- Pats are at the Rams 35 yard line!

The drive ends -- long Gostkowski FG makes it 21-13, that's 13 straight points for New England on nearly all pass plays.

Rams at the 27.

1/10 - Bertelsen gets 3.
2/7 - Scribner gets 1 - Rams pick up penalties on the next two plays and it's now 3rd and 21 at the 16.
3/21 - Hadl - out to Bertelsen - Bertelsen breaks tackles-  gets a block -- Bertelsen is going to run for a 24 yard gain - the Rams were on their heels, their 21-0 lead down to 21-13, Rams deep in their own end on a third and forever -- but they pick it up and are at their own 40.
1/10 - McCutcheon gets 2
2/8 Bertelsen loses 2.
3/10 -- Hadl -- Hadl looks to go deep - he finds Harold Jackson -- that's a big gain, 34 yards -- and Patrick Chung picks up a personal foul with a face mask - thats nearly 50 yards, Rams are all the way down to the 13 yard line!  Another huge third down conversion for Hadl.
1/10 - Bertelsen gets 2
2/8 - Bertelsen stopped at the line.
3/8 - Hadl.  McCutcheon in space -- McCutcheon's gonna go --- Into the Endzone -- TOUCHDOWN RAMS -- John Hadl with the 11 yard score to Lawrence McCutcheon and once again it's a 15 point LA lead with less than 6 to play in the third.

Patriots at the 34 - they get a first down on a 15 yard Sony Michel run -- but that's all, after the punt - LA is at their own 16 yard line.

2 straight Trey Flowers sacks and LA is back at their own 7 yard line as the qtr ends.

4th Qtr: Rams 28 Patriots 13
The Pats looked like they might be getting back into this one; they scored 13 straight, had LA pinned deep - but a couple of big third down conversions and then a long pass to Harold Jackson with a personal foul tacked on got LA in position to add another score.

Rams have 3rd and 19 at their own 7.

They don't pick it up.  Pats will start at the LA 46.

They get 2 first downs - 14 yards from Brady to Patterson, 24 yards from Brady to Hogan - but the drive ends, Gostkowski with the FG and its 28-16.

Gostkowski with the onside kick...it isnt successful, Rams will take over at the Patriot 47; two runs will then move them back 6 yards.

3/16 - Rams staying on the ground, up 12, looking to kill some clock -- but they get more than that- Lawrence McCutcheon runs for 19 -- goes all the way to the Patriot 34 yard line, just a little more than 7 minutes left now and that should be that.

Rams spend the next 3 minutes running right at the Patriots, play after play, winding the clock to under 4 minutes to go, the drive ending on a Hadl 6 yard TD pass to Harold Jackson TOUCHDOWN RAMS - it is all over today - the LA Rams will move on and face the '98 Broncos in round 2.  LA joins the Patriots, Packers, Broncos with 5 teams safely into round 2.

Pats start at the 30 - they get first downs on two Brady to Edelman passes, 20 yds and 10 yds - but the drive ends with LA's 4th sack of the day, Hacksaw Reynolds getting Brady - victory formation for Hadl and it is over.

Final: Rams 35 Patriots 16
We once thought that modern day passing teams might just be too much for the old school running teams and that has not borne out at all.  In fact, teams that rely more on the run maybe are having more success as we near the end of region 10.

Hadl: 10 for 15 160 yards 3 TD
Brady: 20 for 28 285 yds 1 TD

McCutcheon 19 carries, 129 yds, 3 catches, 27 yds, 1 TD/1 INT
Michel: 16 carries, 29 yds

Jackson: 5 catches, 92 yds, 2 TD
Edelman: 6 catches, 85 yds

Player of the Game: Lawrence McCutcheon

2/9 - Elway...in trouble..scrambles for 5 yards.
3/4 - Incomplete

Shanahan decides he's gonna roll some dice early on - Broncos in FG range at the 27 - 4th and 4 - but down this early score, Denver's going for it.

4/4 - It's a handoff.  Davis -- Davis is gonna get right to the sticks.  Measurement.

Short.  Short.  Short -- the Packers turn Denver over on downs - Green Bay takes over at their own 27.  Big, big stop for the Pack.

3 and out.  Denver getting it right back at their own 31.  Halfway through the quarter.

Packers start at the 21.

3 and out - Denver hasn't allowed a first down since the opening drive.  And Darrien Gordon takes the kick back -- Darren Gordon returns the punt all the way to the Packer 6!  Gordon takes the punt back all the way to the Green Bay 6 yard line where the Broncos take over with less than 2 minutes in the qtr.

1/goal - Davis is stopped at the line.
2/goal -- Davis -- Through the Line -- Into the Endzone -- TOUCHDOWN BRONCOS - Terrell Davis punches his way 6 yards and Denver has taken the lead.

Packers at the 34.  2 plays net 5 yards.  End of qtr.

2nd Qtr: Broncos 14 Packers 7
Pack scored on the opening drive, then turned Denver over on downs -- but it's all Denver after that, score, huge punt return, score.  Packers have a third and 5 at their own 39.

They don't pick it up - 3 straight 3 and outs for this Denver defense.

Broncos at the 39.

1/10 - Elway.  Smith.  5 yards, offsides on the next play earns the first down.
1/10 - Incomplete
2/10 - Davis gets a yard.
3/9 - Elway -- in trouble -- pulls it down -- Elway getting those 38 year old legs in motion -- 12 yards for Elway and Denver is at the Packer 38. 5 more on another offsides.

They get a first down - Rodgers 9 yards to Jermichael Finley - but two plays later Rodgers is Picked Off by Tyrone Braxton -- Braxton down at the Broncos 43 -- Denver up 14, Denver turns GB over -- the Broncos on a real roll now.

3 and out. Packers with a much, much needed stop.

Pack at the 30, less than 4 to go in the half.

1/10 - Alex Green loses a yard.
2/11 - Rodgers - Nelson, 10 yards.
1/10 - Rodgers pulls it down, gets a yard.
2/9 - Rodgers.  Cobb -- Nice play - 24 yards to the Bronco 36 as we hit the 2 minute warning.
1/10 - Incomplete
2/10 - Rodgers -- Cobb --- another 15 -- Rodgers leading the nice drive - Pack now at the 21.
1/10 - Rodgers - Cobb -- 11 more -- Randall Cobb getting it done today - first and goal at the ten.

2/goal - Benson -- Stacked Up.
3/goal - Rodgers - Endzone -- Alex Green -- TOUCHDOWN PACKERS - Rodgers goes 7 yards, takes the rest of the quarter -- the Packers miss the XP -- so we will go to the locker room at 21-13.

3rd Qtr: Broncos 21 Packers 13
The Pack score on the first and last possessions of the half - in between, it's all Broncos on both sides of the ball.  Denver up 8 as we come back out for the second half.

Broncos start at the 36.

1/10 - Elway to Ed McCaffrey, 5 yards.
2/5 - Davis gets 2.
3/3 - Davis gets right to the stick....and Denver is short.

Shanahan looking at another 4th down, 4th and inches at their own 46 - up 8 points - and he is gonna go for it.  Gutsy call here - huge play for the Packer defense.

4/1 - Elway -- sneak --- and he's got it.  Denver keeps the chains moving.
1/10 - Elway - Shannon Sharpe's first reception -- he's all the way down to the 33.
1/10 - Davis -- He Busts One -- Terrell Davis is gonna go -- All - The - Way - into the endzone -- TOUCHDOWN BRONCOS - 33 Yard TD TD run; it's now 28-13, and the Pack is up against it.

Packers at the 28.  3 and out.

Broncos open at the 36.

1/10 - Elway - Up Top -- Sharpe --- Big shot by Elway - 48 yards, Elway can still just flick the ball 40 yards to Sharpe, Denver is at the 16.

That's as far as it goes -- Elam FG makes it 31-13, halfway through the third qtr, this one is probably done.

Cobb gets the good return -- he gets to the 42.

Another 3 and out.  Denver at the 22.

3 and out.  Packers at the 37 - Rodgers finds Cobb for a 26 yard shot - the next play is an incomplete pass and the quarter ends.

4th Qtr: Broncos 31 Packers 13
Denver's cruising now, clicking on all cylinders, Packers are at the Bronco 37, 2nd and ten.

They're gonna get a first down - DuJuan Harris with a 12 yard run - but the drive ends, Crosby FG makes it 31-16.

Broncos start at the 19 - Matthews gets his second sack - Packers go 3 and out - they've got good field position at their own 47, ten minutes left - Packers have a glimmer of life right now.

3 and out.  That probably snuffs it out - halfway through the 4th, Broncos have the ball at their own 13.

They get a couple of first downs, largely staying on the ground - Davis gets a 13 yard run, Elway goes 15 yards to Smith - the drive ends on the Denver side of the field - after the punt, the Packers have the ball at their own 23 with 5 minutes to play, down 15 points.

One first down - Rodgers 11 yards to Benson -- but that's all - an incompletion on 4th and 10 at their own 34 turns it over on downs.  Denver's got the ball again, less than 4 minutes to go - and they just run the ball right at the Packers.

17 for Davis.
6 for Loville.
8 for Vaughn Hebron on his first carry of the game -
And then Terrell Davis goes 3 yards -- Into the Endzone -- TOUCHDOWN BRONCOS - IT'S 38-16, 2 and a half minutes left to go - and we are done.

Garbage time TD for the Packers - they take the rest of the game to drive 70 yards, medium range pass completions all the way down the field - it ends with Rodgers hitting Benson with the 20 yard score - a 2 point conversion fails - and that's the final.

Final: Broncos 38 Packers 22

The '99 Rams, '21 Rams, '67 Rams, '51 Rams are all moving on - the '18 team looks to join them - real obvious strengths for each side - it's the Rams 2nd ranked offense taking on the Seahawks top ranked defense.  Jared Goff is 24, 34 scores and 12 picks. 24 year old Todd Gurley was an All Pro, 1800 yards from scrimmage and 21 scores in 14 games. 25 year old Brandin Cooks, 26 year old Robert Woods both had over a thousand yards receiving.  The defense is not good - it's the worst unit in the game and the reason the Rams are only seeded 13th in the region.  It is, of course, led by the great Aaron Donald, 27 years old with 20.5 sacks in an All Pro Season.

Two NFC Champions who fell to the Patriots in the SB - Rams head to Seattle, it's a 4/13 matchup in Region 10.  Let's go to the kick.

1/10 - Goff to Higbee, 5 yards.

Rams at the 35.

The '67 Raiders, '02 Raiders, '76 Raiders have all moved on; the 12th seeds in Region 10 is the '75 squad with the 4th best offense in the NFL. The 30 year old Snake had 16 scores and (gulp) 24 picks.  27 year old Cliff Branch is an All Pro, he had 9 scores. Oakland's gonna run the ball behind 29 year old Art Shell/30 year old Gene Upshaw. The defense is just okay - 35 year old Willie Brown leads a secondary that had 18 picks.

We get what looks like a competitive 5/12 game; let's go to a cold Wrigley Field for the kick.

1st Qtr
Raiders will start at the 29.

3 and out.  Best defense from 1963 against the 4th best defense from '75 here.

Bears at the 38.  3 and out.

Raiders at the 27.

1/10 - Kenny Stabler completes the game's first pass, 7 yards to Mike Siani.
2/3 - Clarence Davis is stopped at the line.
3/3 - First first down - Stabler to Fred Biletnikoff.  10 yards.  Raiders at the 44.
1/10 - Clarence Davis loses a yard.
2/11 - Mark Van Eeghen picks up 6, another 3rd down.
3/5 - The Snake convers - 13 yards to Marv Hubbard and the Raiders reach the 38.

The drive stalls - Madden calls on the old man, 48 year old George Blanda to kick a 49 yard FG.....and it's good.  3-0 Oakland.

Bears at the 16.  3 and out.

Big special teams play -- Ted Hendricks breaks through the line -- and Blocks the Punt - Oakland blocks the Bears punt - Oakland has a first and goal inside the 5 yard line!

3 and out.  This is the game we're looking at today, it is cold and neither offense is great.  Blanda.  Chip shot.  6-0.

Bears at the 32.  Two plays gain a yard, it's 3rd and 9 at the 33 as the qtr ends.

2nd Qtr:  Raiders 6 Bears 0
2 Blanda FGs and a Hendricks blocked punt is the story so far.  Bears have 3rd and 9 at their own 33, they have yet to complete a pass or gain a first down.

They don't pick it up.  After the punt, Oakland at the 26.

Oakland gets a first down - Stabler 19 yards to Cliff Branch - but that's where the drive ends -- Ray Guy could be a difference maker today, his punt is downed at the Bear 12.  11 minutes left in the half.

1/10 - Ronnie Bull picks up Chicago's first first down - 17 yard run.
1/10 - Rick Casares gets 1.
2/9 - Billy Wade completes his first pass - a dozen yards to Mike Ditka.
1/10 - Ronnie Bull picks up 34 yards -- there's a big gainer -- Bears all the way to the Oakland 24 yard line.
1/10 - Wade to Joe Marconi - 12 yards and that is another first down -- Chicago at the Oakland 12.
1/10 - Cesares gets a yard.
2/9 - Willie Galimore gets a yard - and then he's blown up by Phil Villapiano - Galimore loses the ball -- Fumble -- Fumble -- Oakland recovers and the Raiders take over with less than 7 to play at their own 8 yard line.

That's another big play - the blocked punt and now a forced fumble deep in their own end.

1/10 - Marv Hubbard gets 1.
2/9 - Stabler to Clarence Davis - 10 yards and a first down.
1/10 - Davis gets 2.
2/8 - Hubbard gets 3 and an offsides picks it up.
1/10 - Van Eeghen gets 2.
2/8 - Hubbard gets 1.
3/7 - The Snake rolling out -- Stabler to Siani, 11 yards out to the 43 yard line.
1/10 - Doug Atkins sacks the Snake -- it's the last play before the 2 minute warning - and Oakland won't be moving further, they punt at 90 seconds.

Bears at their own 34 -- they go 3 and out - Ted Hendricks with 2 sacks on the drive to add to his blocked punt -- Bears have to kick it away - its the end of the half.

Third Qtr: Raiders 6 Bears 0
Ted Hendricks has 2 sacks and a blocked punt. Oakland up 6.

Bears at the 22.

3 and out.  Raiders at the 33.

3 and out.  Bears at the 27.

3 and out.  Raiders at the 38.

1/10 - Stabler has to run, he gets a couple.
2/8 - Stabler -- Branch - a dozen yards -- Raiders at the Bear 48.
1/10 - Clarence Davis, Shell and Upshaw pulling -- Davis has a hole -- Davis has a step -- Clarence Davis has broken it!  Davis striding  -- Clarence Davis is gonna go Into the End Zone -- TOUCHDOWN RAIDERS - Clarence Davis runs 48 yards to the house and the Raiders are now up 13-0.

Bears at the 28.  3 and out.  Oakland's defense just come up huge today.

Raiders at the 20.

One first down - Stabler to Biletnikoff, 20 yards - the drive dies here, Guy hits another great punt - Bears open at their own 7.

2 passes from Wade to Ditka net 15 yards and the qtr ends.

4th Qtr: Raiders 13 Bears 0
We sure look like the 12/5 upset's about to happen in Region 10, Oakland's up 2 scores, Chicago deep in their own end, first down at the 22.

1/10 - Wade to Cesares for 8.
2/2 - Wade to Johnny Morris, 21 yards -- Bears at the Raider 49.
1/10 - Cesares gets nothing.
2/10 - Half dozen for Marconi.
3/4 - Incomplete

Old Man Halas has a decision to make, 12 minutes left, down 2 scores, 4th and 4.

Bears go for it.

4/4 - Wade has to run -- Wade escapes -- Wade's got the first down -- Wade all the way to the Oakland 46 yard line -- Chicago at the Raider 46.
1/10 - Casares gets 1.
2/9 - 18 yards from Wade to Morris -- Bears are at the Oakland 27 yard line.
1/10 - Wade -- Bo Farrington -- 15 yards and Chicago is now at the 12 with a little more than 9 to go.
1/10 - Wade -- Morris - 5 yards to the 7.
2/5 - Wade - sacked by George Atkinson on the safety blitz - Bears have third and a ton.
3/11 - Wade -- Monte Johnson up the middle -- Oakland's 4th sack and it is now 4th and 15 at the 17 with a little more than 7 left.

Field goal won't help.  Halas is going to fire this last bullet.

4/15 - Wade -- Endzone -- Johnny Morris -- TOUCHDOWN BEARS - Bears are into the endzone -- they miss the XP - so its 13-6, 7 to go - Raiders will start at the 22.

1/10 - Marv Hubbard goes for 27 yards, big gainer - Raiders at the 49.
1/10 - Pete Banaszak for 3.
2/7 - Snake.  Biletnikoff -- 11 yards to the 37.

The next 3 plays lose 9 yards on the Joe Fortunato sack - and the Bears will get another shot at this. Great Guy kick, of course -- Bears at their own 8.

So - here we go.  Little more than 3 minutes left in the game.  Bears down 6, they need to drive 92 yards to tie this game.

1/10 - Cesares gets 7 and goes out of bounds.
2/3 - Marconi is just short of the sticks - Bears use their first timeout.
3/1 - Wade gets dropped by Jack Tatum on the safety blitz -- Oakland's got 5 sacks on the day.  And now it is another 4th down for Chicago, back at their own 12, they call their second timeout here, little more than 2 to play.
4/6 - Wade -- out to Bull - Bull is going to be Stopped Short by Villapiano - and that could be that -- yet another big play by the Raider defense.

Oakland's gonna take the rest of the game, 3 running plays burns the 2 minute warning and the Bears last time out - Blanda hits the chip shot FG, that makes it a 10 point game - handful of seconds left and this will be the final.

Final: Raiders 16 Bears 6
