#54 August 10, 1962 The Swamp
The best Giants team ever trailed the Dodgers by 5.5 when LA came to Candlestick for a three game series on August 10. The Giants replaced the soil off of the first base bag with a loose, watery mixture that served to dampen Maury Wills and the Dodgers running game. The Giants swept the series, cutting LA's lead to 2.5. This is game 1, Willie Mays homered and doubled, Billy O' Dell threw a complete game 5 hitter, the Giants beat the Dodgers 11-2 and went on to win their first Candlestick pennant.

#55 September 30, 1982 The Pruitt Game
There used to be pennant races (ask your dad) but we traded them for an extra dozen playoff games that leave the World Series feeling like the MLB Finals. Then, when the ratings drop, we ask "what additional changes need to be made?" Which sounds like every place I've ever worked. Chasing one change with another change, unaware it's the first change that was the problem.
The Giants were down 9 on September 3 but came into this game down only 2 with 4 games left in the season.
The Giants were down 5-0 in the 7th (that's a win expectancy of 2% - it's later than you think) needing a win to keep the season alive.
5 singles - the last three (Max Venable, Joe Morgan, Jack Clark) with two out, scored three runs to cut it to 5-3. The Giants tied it in the 8th, Venable again with a two out run scoring single.
Future Giant Harry Spilman homered off Rich Gale in the 9th to put Houston up 6-5.
With one on and two out in the bottom of the 9th, Jeff Leonard singled; Jim Wohlford walked to load the bases, and Ron Pruitt (who finished his Giants career with a total of two hits) pinch singled home two runs to give San Francisco a 7-6 win over Houston and cut the division lead to 1 game with 3 left.

The Niners went 11-4-1 in 2012 earning a home playoff game against their old rivals from the 90s, Green Bay. Colin Kaepernick broke the NFL rushing record for quarterbacks with 181 yards, two of them for touchdowns, and also threw for 2 scores, both to Michael Crabtree. The Niners had nearly 600 yards of total offense, their highest ever playoff total.

The 14-2 Niners had home field advantage throughout the '92 playoffs; that started here with a 20-13 win over the Redskins. Steve Young was 20 of 30 for two scores; Pierce Holt sacked Mark Rypien three times; the Niners eliminated the defending champs. The following week - a loss to the Cowboys.
