Forever Giants:1949 New York Giants(Year 67)

1948 is here.

My WAR calculation is a combination of Baseball-reference and Clay Davenport; I believe it to be the "best" WAR number available for historical comparison. 8 WAR is an MVP quality season.  The record is pythagorean adjusted for 162 games.

1949 85-77
C Wes Westrum 1.05
1B Johnny Mize 2.85  (29.7) Last Season
2B Hank Thompson 2.6
SS Buddy Kerr 0
3B Sid Gordon 4.75 (15.95) Last season
LF Whitey Lockman 2.6
CF Bobby Thomson 5.9
RF Willard Marshall 4.15 (14.8) Last season
MI Bill Rigney 2.8
IF Jack Lohrke 1.5
C Ray Mueller -.15
C Walker Cooper  -.35
1B Joe Lafata -.3
1B Bert Haas -.1
SP Larry Jansen 1.95
SP Monty Kennedy 2.45
SP Dave Koslo  5.8
SP Sheldon Jones 2.3
SP Clint Hartung -.25

-Durocher brings in the Giants first black players, Irvin and Thompson; then moves Mize at midseason.  Walker Cooper is dealt, Gordon/Kerr/Marshall are all moved after the season. Kerr, Marshall, and the great Mize all remain in the top 100 Giants of all time as of the end of 2016.
